UNC School of the Arts - Eva Wetzel, violin, began studying piano at age three and violin at age four. She attended the pre-college program at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf, graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts High School and is currently pursuing her Bachelors of Music at UNCSA with Professor Ida Bieler. She has won many national and international competitions, including “Jugend Musiziert”, the Omega Talent Hunt and the MANC String Competition. She had the opportunity to attend the Aspen Music Festival and School to study with Professor Cornelia Heard. Eva is playing a violin by Marc de Sterke from 2011.  [read more]

Lyndsey Swann - Second Place

UNC Greensboro - Lyndsey Swann, a student of Professor Clara O'Brien, holds her MM in Vocal Performance from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and her BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Central Florida. Most recently, Lyndsey performed the role of Magda Sorel in The Consul (Menotti) with UNCG Opera Theater in the April of 2016. She has also performed the roles of the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors and Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Thief (also by Menotti) as well as Madame Lidoine in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites. Owen Dodds - Third Place

UNC School of the Arts - Owen Dodds, age 21, is a junior in college at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he studies piano with Dmitri Shteinberg. Born in Rochester, New York, Mr. Dodds has lived in various locations in the United States and Europe. In 2009, Mr. Dodds began studying at the UNC School of the Arts as an eighth grader in the high school program, with Clifton Matthews and later Dmitri Shteinberg. Mr. Dodds has attended and performed at several music festivals, including the Tibor Varga Music Festival in Switzerland, the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Vermont, the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Germany, the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival in Florida and the Meadowmount School of Music in NY. Hunter Bockes - First Place

UNC School of the Arts - Saxophonist, Christopher “Hunter” Bockes currently studies at the North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA). Hunter has been a member of the UNSCA Wind Ensemble as well as uncsaX. During his time at UNCSA he has collaborated with the dance, drama, guitar, and percussion studios and has been in collaboration with Olympian, Jeremy Abbott, at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships with uncsaX. Hunter has been a member of the award winning Atchara Saxophone Quartet, the Half and Half Saxophone Quartet, and the award winning Minerva Saxophone Quartet.  As part of the Atchara Saxophone Quartet and the Minerva Saxophone Quartet he has won the state round of the  Music Teachers National Association (MTNA)  “Chamber Winds”... [read more]

Stephen Mulvahill - Second Place

UNC School of the Arts - Hailed as a “dynamic and engaging” performer, pianist Stephen Mulvahill was born to be a musician, but discovered it late. When he was thirteen, his parents bought a piano, and in one summer his interests abruptly shifted from his dream of being a professional skateboarder to falling head­over­heels in love with music. UNC School of the Arts - Avital Mazor was born in Israel and began studying the violin at the Jerusalem Conservatory. He graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance under the guidance of Michael Gaisler. His public appearances include performances with the Holon and Ameritus orchestras as well as the Israel Philharmonic. He has participated in numerous competitions, among them the Clairmont and the Gritz competitions. Marco Nunez - First Place

North Carolina School of the Arts - Mexican-American flutist Marco Núñez was born in El Paso, TX and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. He is currently in his first year at Indiana University in the Jacobs School of Music. Núñez is pursuing his Master in Music in flute performance under the tutelage of Thomas Robertello. Prior to attending the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University , Marco was a student at University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he studied with Tadeu Coelho, and at the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey studying with Luis Alfredo González. Alastair Wright - Second Place

North Carolina School of the Arts - British saxophonist Alastair Wright has been praised by Classical Voice of North Carolina for his "dulcet-like tone...with a luminescent sheen". He earned his Bachelor of Music from the Birmingham Conservatoire, England, studying with Naomi Sullivan, and is currently undertaking graduate studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he is the Graduate Teaching Assistant to Taimur Sullivan. Jacob Cook - Third Place

Appalachian State University - Jacob Cook is a young bass-baritone from the mountains of North Carolina. He developed a deep passion for singing while attending Appalachain State University in Boone, North Carolina, where he had his first experience with opera performing the role of Balthazar in Amahl and the Night Visitors. Since then, he has performed several operatic roles including The Father in Hänsel and Gretel, Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, and Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro. Lucia Kobza - Audience Choice

North Carolina School of the Arts - The Swiss musician with Czech-Polish origins started playing violin at the age of 4, and entered the Bern University of the Arts at the age of 16 where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Music Performance.
